Spreader of Love Blog Award

The rules for this award are simple. I LOVE YOU = 8 letters which gives you 8 rules:)

1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award and write a little bit about why you love them.

2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.

3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.

4. Nominate no more than 17 people who you love or you think could use some love.

5. Write one word (you can only use a word once) about what you love about their blog.

6. You cannot nominate someone who has already been nominated - the love has to spread to all.

7. Post links to the 17 blogs you nominate.

8. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they’ve been nominated.
BIG thank you to Mrs. Hammer at ...Expect Miracles... who gave me this award. I love her because she inspires hope in me with every post. Her positivity and optimism are in such stark contrast to my attitude on most days and sharing her journey really does give me much-needed perspective. I hoping with every fiber of my being that this is her cycle, she deserves some good news.
Here are the blogs I am nominating:
1. Maybe Baby - graceful
2. Infertile Myrtle - strong
3. Twists of Fate - beautiful
4. MeAndBaby's Blog - hopeful
5. Conceive This! - hilarious
7. Baby Manatee - positive
The thing that's really cool about this list for me is that these are all girls who were not pregnant when I started reading them. And they all are now. All of them have seen a heartbeat. I started reading their blogs because I loved them, they intrigued me and inspired me and the girls are all wonderful. And I continue reading them because they give me hope and happiness.

Kreativ Blogger Award

I was tagged by the lovely Stefanie at Through the Eyes of a Stranger for the Kreativ Blogger Award!

Thanks Stefanie! I love these opportunities to learn about other bloggers and share more about my life outside of my daily IF struggles and frustrations. This award is particularly cool because it forces me to be positive. Something that I completely forget to be most days.

The rules of accepting this award are simple: list seven things you love, and pass the award to seven bloggers you love.

1. My dogs. I love them more than I ever thought I could love anything. I love them as I imagine I would love a child (though I'm sure I would be surprised even more at how much I could love a child). They are just dogs. Very average, even wild cards since we adopted them both from the shelter - so we weren't sure what we were getting into and only had an hour or so to 'bond' with them before bringing them home. The second one especially was difficult to love instantly 'cause she's been a lot of trouble. But I can honestly say now that they have both utterly and completely stolen my heart. I feel so lucky to be able to have them. They cause all kinds of chaos in our lives and they're tons of work and cause a lot of worry but I love all that too. A friend of mine (and new mother x2)said that's a sign of that biological clock ticking. You think?

2. DH. Of course I love DH. He is the most selfless, generous, adoring, and adorable person I have ever known. It took me about three days of knowing him to fall in love with him. It took him three years of knowing me. But I hung on through it all to the blind faith that I could love him more than anyone could and that we were made for each other. And turns out, I was right.

3. My body. I mean this in the least conceited way possible. Maybe I should have said "my health." I'm not particularly pretty, I don't look slammin' in a bikini. I don't have the best hair or eyes or skin or nails or anything really. I'm very average. It's just that it took me a long long time to accept my body, to respect it - I never thought I would love it. But I do. It works for me. And in loving it, I refuse to take any part of it for granted. All my limbs work, my metabolism is good, my liver is forgiving, my heart works, even my poor uterus, which has been through a lot, seems to be hanging in there. I feel comfortable in my own skin for the first time ever in my life. And even if my body never bears a child, I have to say, I am pretty damn lucky.

4. TV. It's my escape. My happy place. The place where everything is fun and beautiful - or at least not boring. It's where my emotions go to play and I love that there is such a place. A place that you can look into and feel for and laugh about and think about and bond over without investing too much real emotional currency. It is a time investment, and I understand that at times there are opportunity costs, but to me it's all well worth it.

5. Rain. Don't get me wrong. Summer is fun. I love the bbq's, the warm sun, not having to wear so many damn layers, having light outside far into the evening...but there is nothing like rain. Rain has always been a powerful thing for me. It represents so many things that are good, like renewal and cleansing and growth and nature. And it reminds me that I am not in control of everything that touches my life. There are forces far more powerful and meaningful than me in the world and that is, strangely perhaps, a comfort. I am humbled by rain. And comforted. It's not a religious thing, it's just matter-of-fact. And sometimes it's just the thought that - as long as it's raining out I feel justified in being cooped up in my office, or saying "I'm just going to sit in here and enjoy my fire and hot chocolate," or "I'm going to go outside and feel it on my skin and smell the way it makes the earth smell and try to live in the moment (ps there is nothing like rain to facilitate the practice of living in the moment)." It is so pure. And simple. And something that somehow impresses me with its force without being intimidating. Which is probably because I don't live in the midwest or hurricane country.

6. Wine. I'm not a connoisseur but I'm also not above being grossed out if it's really bad cheap crap. I'm somewhere in the middle with respect to my understanding of wine's intricacies. But I LOVE wine with the most hoity-toity (sp?) of them. It's the perfect drink. It goes with savory or sweet or nothing at all and it contains alcohol without packing as many calories as beer or as many toxins as liquor. It's socially acceptable and festive and plentiful. There's nothing I don't like about wine. Except for some reds. I'm definitely a white-wine gal. And I prefer bubbles.

7. Exercise. I don't know if this one is true. It might be. I certainly feel better when I exercise. And I get really sad if I don't get a work out in. But I don't know if the sadness is from guilt or from missing something I love. I know I should love exercise. I've known that since I was young. So maybe I've just conditioned (or brainwashed) myself into thinking I love it. Or maybe it's endorphins so it's more addiction than love. Or maybe it's just the guilt thing. I guess there's a chance I do love it. I enjoy it at the very least. Sometimes. And I certainly love my health (see #3). So I guess even if I don't really love it, in the interest of continuing my good habit of deceiving myself into thinking I do, I'm adding it to the list.

Seven blogs I love (in no particular order):

1. ~Baby Manatee~ for Gina's incurable optimism - so happy for her new bean!!

2. Conceive This! - because who doesn't love Murgdan?

3. Maybe Baby - Because she's an awesome writer and an awesome woman and for the grace that she's showing in this turbulent time.

4. Misconceptions About Conception - for S's honesty and reasoned analysis that allows her to connect with her readers. And because we lawyers need to watch out for each other! And because she's good to her dogs.

5. Twists of Fate - because Alyssa is beautiful and funny and I learned through this month's ICLW that we happen to have a lot in common.

6. Little Bluebirds Fly - because Bluebird has a way with words, she's a gifted blogger and one of the strongest people I know of.

7. a little pregnant - again, who wouldn't love this blog? Comic relief and ingenious insights at their best.

Honest Scrap Award

I made it my blog homework to finish this much-delayed post before ICLW as I think it's a nice way to introduce myself, set out a few details of my life that you can't find in my sidebar, and showcase a few blogs that I find particularly noteworthy.

First, many many thanks to MeAndBaby for this fabulous award. It was really a very gracious gesture and I treasure it. May I find in myself the honest scrappiness that others have seen in me. And may I use it wisely and help it to grow throughout this journey of mine. And now, dear readers, I shall pass it on.

The Rules:

* Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design.
* Show the 7 winners’ names on your blog and leave a comment informing them that they have been awarded Honest Scrap.
* List at least 10 honest things about yourself.

10 Honest Things About Me:

1. I'm a worrier and sometimes my 'realism' gets a little pessimistic. But thankfully I have found that acceptance of the uncertain comes with maturity.

2. I quit caffeine in the summer of 2008, about seven months prior to my wedding, exclusively in preparation for the TTC process. I haven't been drinking much caffeine since. And I miss it. I love caffeine. But I'm not going to start up again notwithstanding that my TTC process may not resume anytime in the near future because I hate the idea of going through withdrawal again.

3. I am a huge, religious, and unapologetic fan of many (but by no means all) reality TV shows. My favorites are American Idol, America's Next Top Model, Hell's Kitchen, The Bachelor(ette), SYTYCD, and Apprentice. This is something I get really excited about. I will skip social engagements to make sure I see the next episode as soon as possible and thank GOD for DVR. Sometimes I question my priorities when I'm shusshing DH to make sure I don't miss a moment.

4. It's ridiculous how much I love my dogs. I love them more than I ever imagined possible despite always having been abnormally empathetic towards animals. I miss them when I'm at work or even when I'm in the shower...in fact, when DH and I are walking them, sometimes one of us will have to pick one up because we miss them way down there on the ground. I once heard a new mom say, in a very honest moment, "I wonder when I will love my baby more than I love my dog," and I used to worry that that could be me. I'm over it now though.

5. I love to sing. I used to perform, growing up, and now I miss it so I sing at pretty much every opportunity I can get. Which is usually limited to the car, the shower, and the occasional karaoke night. I am one of the few people I know who genuinely loves karaoke.

6. I have sometimes thought, from a purely selfish standpoint, that it would be better to be divorced with a kid than divorced with no kids. Obviously it wouldn't be better for the poor kid to go through a divorce...I think it just says something about how much I want a kid.

7. Recently, I have begun to make purchases and plans - specifically clothes purchases, a camera purchase, vacation planning, whether to refinance the house, when to buy a new car - keeping in mind that there is supposed to be a baby or two in the picture soon. I feel bad about this, like I'm jinxing it or should just live each day for what it is instead of dwelling on what I don't have. But some of these are big ticket items or require planning ahead and do take foresight. So they are a constant reminder of the pregnancy and children I don't yet have.

8. Relatedly, after I found out I was pregnant, my shopping habit and a lot of my attachments to inconsequential material things (shoes and anything Coach, e.g.) abated almost overnight - just as quickly as food aversions and morning sickness descended. I think my sense of perspective and priorities settled in. And it's stuck. I've only purchased two pairs of shoes since last fall. Okay, three. I still have my moments.

9. I am ridiculously open. I can't seem to use much discretion when I'm talking about myself to people I trust and sometimes to people I shouldn't trust (I'm also very trusting). A few people IRL know the whole story of my m/c and the bizarre aftermath - even two co-workers - and while I sometimes wish I could hide behind a veil of secrecy, the vast majority of the time I'm glad I'm open.

10. I have heard mothers say many variations of the following: "the first time I held my child, I finally knew what the meaning of life was." A friend of mine (a mother) said this was 'crap,' - that it was too much pressure to put on the poor kid and would mean that life is just a vicious cycle of living for the next generation with none being happy or sufficient on their own. But I don't think it's crap. I think it's a beautiful, inspiring, and romantic notion and it keeps me in this game.

I give this award with great enthusiasm and admiration to (in random order):

1. Kim at Baby Shmaybe?

2. babyinterrupted at baby, interrupted

3. Bluebird at Little Bluebirds Fly

4. Waiting for Baby at Why Can't I stay pregnant?

5. Mrs. Hammer at ...Expect Miracles...
